The Kitten Connection

Trap, Neuter, Return

The most effective way to reduce numbers of street cats and improve their health is by sterilisation, so we started a TNR programme in the Peniche area. We trap feral cats, sterilise them and return them to their colonies.

Last year, The Kitten Connection sterilised 116 cats.

Sterilisation of street cats is the only way to control Portugal’s ever-growing cat population.

Our team brings traps to the colony site and stays there during the trapping. The next day, we transport the cats to the vet for their surgery, ear tip (to show they are sterilised) and any other veterinary care they need. After they have been sterilised, we return them to their colony. If they are in need of extra care, they stay with us while they recover.

We share our experiences and help educate people about the benefits of sterilisation and how to care for street cats, so they have a happy and healthy life.

We also support by distributing donated food to people feeding colonies in the Peniche area.
